Sunrises, Drinks and Le Petit Chef Oh My!

Another morning of writing and watching the light of the day appear over the beautiful waters of Mexico. It is 7:07 am and I cannot tell you enough what I would do to start my day like this every day! Glancing over at hubby still sleeping joyously, I’m sure he feels the same.

I was lucky enough to witness a beautiful Mexico sunrise this morning and managed to take a few pictures as well. Sitting in the silence as the orange glow crests over the ocean and hear the waves crashing below brought me back to a time when I was young and living on the west coast. The only thing missing was the sand between my toes and the midst of the water but if I’m being honest – as I am older now, I can do away with the sand if I have the rest!

We were slow moving this morning but eventually made it to Mercure for breakfast. More omelet and French toast for me. Hubby enjoyed some toast and pancakes with bacon of course. From there we headed straight to the preferred adults only pool. The water was a tad chilly so we roamed around the water chasing warm patches as it naturally heated for the day. The young lady we met at dinner and was part of the magic show was enjoying the poolside hammock so we had a brief but pleasant chat with her. We also met a couple from the UP who was quite nice and chatted with them for a bit. There was also a nice pair of friends who were vacationing together with his mom. They were a lot of fun to talk with. I started feeling a little hungry and a sunburn coming on so we went back to the room and relaxed some. Really wanted to try the buffet for lunch today but were too tired from the pool so room service service for the win! Chicken and tuna salad sandwiches were nothing worth mentioning. Chicken nuggets were ok-ish today. Overall lunch was underwhelming but given that we didn’t have to walk to the middle of the resort – we still deem it a victory!

After some time in the room we opted for more pool time. On the way out I got a call from the Restaurant and Beverage Manager confirming ur reservation for Le Petit Chef dinner experience. 8:30pm. Quite later than we are used to for supper but that’s okay. After a couple of mudslides, more time at the pool and a lovely chat with a nice retired lady at the poolside bar we retreated back to the room to get around for the evening.

A little tv time and we headed out for the evening. We began at Cin Cin . Service was slow but they were quite busy. We were seated outside and thankfully we were just there for a little soup to tide us over until supper. A quick stop in the gift shop was needed for some medicine. We grabbed a couple of souvenirs while we were there. Saw a random door by the bar and thought we’d explore it. It turned out to be a small sitting area with a couch and rest rooms. It was quiet and dark because the lights were automatic so we had a seat and just chilled for a bit. The dark and silence was great for a short break from the constant stimulation the resort provides. At 8:15 we headed back to Cin Cin for our dinner reservation.

We were led to the private wine cellar which was not in a cellar at all. It was in a nicely decorated wine room on the main floor of the restaurant. As we entered the room we saw place setting for up to 4 people. They quickly removed 2 of them which we then realized we were the only ones attended. This is great because we have not done this experience before and didn’t want outside influences interrupting it. Although we had our waiter and the servicing us, service was a bit slow but i would imagine it’s because the restaurant itself was very busy and running slow. The Le Petit Chef experience was awesome. The little chef appeared and was growing the vegetables for our salad, fighting sea life for our soup and prepping the hot grill to cook our steaks. with each little presentation done though projection and careful timing of the staff it truly is a unique and fun experience.

Each course came with a glass of wine to compliment it. We began with a caprese salad with white wine, followed by a complex seafood soup with scallops, shrimp, muscles and octopus in an amazingly flavorful broth which was paired with a rose. The main dish was a rather large grilled ribeye steak that was seasoning perfectly and plated with potatoes and grilled vegetables. Hubby added Lobster with his ribeye. The steak entree was paired with a red wine. Finally dessert was a delicately plated ice cream with a nutty powder and chocolate syrup garnished with fresh fruit and paired with some deliciously smooth and creamy 1921 La Crema De Mexico. Imagine Baileys but with tequila. The experience ended with a short clip of Le Petit Chef himself bidding us Adeu.

By now hubby and I are quite tipsy and make our way back to our room. We make it (somewhat surprisingly lol) and as I am headed straight for bed he notices something on the table and insists I join him. On our now clean coffee table where we had left a pile of room service dishes was a beautiful plate of desserts waiting for us to enjoy on behalf of Le Petit Chef. Of course those didn’t last very long and we were soon down for the count.
