Cancun, Mexico

Arrive at about 5pm just as a larger group was arriving. We were asked to wait until they were ready to proceed to the Preferred Lounge for check in. This didn’t take very long so we were ok with it. Upon entering the Preferred Lounge we were able to quickly find a seat and the bartender immediately asked if we’d like a drink. She was pleasant and only came by once drinks were empty. There were chicken wings out for snack. The other tray was filled with something unknown. It looked very dry and old. The chicken wings were a welcomed surprise though – as we were starving and check in took far longer than it should have.

The concierge asked everyone to have their passports out but failed to come by us as he was making his rounds. We tried to get his attention but he wouldn’t look our way. I managed to catch him right as he was leaving the lounge. We watched as the sweet young lady tried to check in the large group. I say “try” to check them in because there was a lady in that group who was behaving very entitled and pretentious. (We have seen her several other times throughout the resort and it seems she behaves that way regularly). At one point the guest had the check in lady AND the manager held up in conversation leaving nobody to help others. Eventually the check in lady was able to make her way back to the desk (she was trying her hardest – this was not her fault). No sooner did she try to get started on the next – the guest returned again taking up both hers and the managers attention. I think it’s important to note: the guest has her room and keys assigned at this point.

After an hour of waiting I did go up to another desk where a staff member was and ask about how long it was going to be. Explained we’ve been waiting patiently and understand how it can be but we ;had been up since 1am and were tired, hungry and already waited an hour. He explained he was unable to check us in but would let them know. A brief time later we were helped. As I mentioned, this wasn’t the staff’s fault and we did keep polite but we were exhausted and that guest was not letting anyone get anything done.

At check in I mentioned the UVC (our vacation club) to see if there were any rooms available for our complimentary room upgrade. When we got to our room we noticed it was indeed an upgrade. We were given a Preferred Club Ocean View with 2 Double Beds. Most places I would have been disappointed with a double room but hubby can have his own bed in exchange for this ocean view 🙂

Once in our rooms and bags delivered we headed out to find dinner! We settled on Cin Cin, the Mediterranean restaurant and they did not disappoint! Our waiter, Hime (sadly I didn’t see the spelling so I am using it at it sounded) was fantastic!! From start to finish he was attentive, interactive, pleasant, and prompt. I had the apple salad au red wine, mussels soup, and red tuna. Also some fried calamari to share with hubby. Speaking of hubby he had mussels soup and tomato cream soup, cheese croquettes. Hime brought us our pudding mousse and a special desert he had made for us that was a cream base dipped in dark chocolate. It was very tasty! Drinks were baileys on the rocks and water. When I only ordered water Hemi had a special alcohol free frozen punch drink made for me. This was super sweet because I had shared I wanted water since I was so overheated. He said this would cool me off quicker – and it did!

After a nap we went back down for a snack at the Mexican restaurant, Tamarindo. It was a nice atmosphere. Sadly, I was extremely sleepy and my poor husband had to keep stopping me from dozing off. I made it through though. I ordered the beet carpaccio, chicharron cream soup and pork loin. Hubby ordered the shredded beef tostada, chicharron cream soup and queso fundido. The soup was to die for. With every bite you were comforted and warm. The beet carpaccio was tasty but a challenge to eat. The beets were a bit firm and with them sliced so thin it made them a challenge to eat. I didn’t not care for the pork at all. One bite and done. That’s ok though, I was already full. Hubby enjoyed his food as well, he also raved about the soup.
